“I am honored and delighted to have this new opportunity to continue and develop my long-standing highly productive collaborations with my many CNRS colleagues,” Saul Perlmutter declares. One of the first ten extremely high-level scientists invited to become “CNRS fellow-ambassadors” is an American cosmologist who discovered that the universe’s expansion is accelerating1 and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2011.

This new CNRS instrument has two complementary objectives and is based on the academic tradition of prominent “visiting professors.” “The quality of world-class scientists that participate demonstrates the attractiveness of the CNRS, doing so in a way that goes beyond a simple speech,” states Alain Schuhl, the organization’s Chief Scientific Officer.

Second, the program’s goal is to restart French research: We can attract the best researchers the world by exploiting the CNRS’s acclaim and standing,” states Schuhl. These highly regarded researchers agree to spend at least one month per year for three years in one or more French laboratories after being invited by CNRS institutes.
