I believe we now live month to month. We are all “month-to-monthers” as a society, whether we are wealthy or struggling students. People used to tell me that pet insurance is great for people with fixed incomes all the time.
We have all allocated our earnings, so we are all on a fixed income. It could be used to pay for our child’s college education, a roof, or braces, among other things.
We could also save for retirement. However, we do not have these pots of money that we store in envelopes and never touch: Oh, that’s for that; I won’t bother with it. Every month, we draw from a reserve of funds.
