Do I require insurance for renters’ liability?

With the assumption that your landlord already possesses a policy that will cover you, you may decide to forego renters liability coverage.

However, since landlords insure the building they own, it is unlikely that your landlord’s policy will cover you. Even if you rent, there are a few reasons why you might need your own insurance policy.

Albeit the law doesn’t order leaseholders protection, your property manager might expect you to have this inclusion. Your landlord’s policy only covers the building’s structure; renters liability coverage covers injuries or damages to other residents.

Check to see if your lease stipulates that you must show proof of renters insurance. For example, your property manager might request this to be submitted in the span of 14 days of the rent starting.
