Uruk: Uruk Uruk is frequently referred to as the first great city and the most memorable real city in history. It was established around 4500 BCE during the Uruk time frame. The legend of one of the earliest known pieces of writing, “The Epic of Gilgamesh,” has a connection to the staggering Ruler Gilgamesh.
