Policies often require coverage to be purchased at least 10 to 14 days in advance of travel dates, so it’s important to read them carefully. Make sure that there is a free look period and that you can cancel for a full refund. Other significant fine print things include:

Exceptions. Because no single insurance policy covers all costs, it’s a good idea to look at the exceptions listed in the fine print to find out about any hidden fees.

Exclusions. In some cases, coverage is limited by exclusions, such as losses caused by intoxication or criminal activity, trauma from extreme sports like bungee jumping, or self-inflicted injuries.

Lack of documentation. Be sure to fill out the paperwork completely and accurately when filing a claim. Coverage could be delayed or canceled if this is not done.
