Tornado Coverage for Other Property.

The furnishings in your home are also covered by standard home insurance policies.

Some insurers offer policies that help you get back on your feet after a tornado, while others offer riders and endorsements that give you more coverage for your house.

In some places, wind damage is not covered by some insurers. For instance, providers exclude losses as a result of wind damage in 14 counties along Texas’ Gulf Coast.

However, if they meet certain requirements, homeowners in these Texas regions can purchase additional windstorm coverage from the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association.

In the coastal regions of other states, such as Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina, some insurance companies provide additional windstorm coverage.

Damage caused by a tornado is covered by some policies, but windstorm claims have their own, higher deductible.

A policy might have a general deductible of $1,000 and a windstorm deductible of $2,000, for instance.
