What Is Insurance for Hurricanes?
A number of distinct insurance

There is no such thing as “hurricane insurance” that can be purchased on its own. Instead, you can combine homeowners insurance, flood insurance, and various endorsements like sewer-backup or windstorm coverage to get hurricane damage coverage (in some states).

Hurricane insurance can cover damages caused by wind, heavy rainfall, flooding, tornadoes, storm surge, and other weather-related perils, depending on the combination of coverages you choose to purchase.

These kinds of insurance will cover the following hurricane-related damages:

Insurance for your home: The structure of your home is covered by a standard homeowners insurance policy against damage caused by many risks, including lightning and hurricanes, but there are also exclusions.

Flood coverage: The risks of flooding, storm surge, and water driven by wind are not covered by home insurance. During a hurricane, flooding is a major danger. Renters can also purchase insurance.

Back-up sewer: Your house may have a sewer backup as a result of heavy rain. Extreme weather and a hurricane may also contribute to this. This is not covered by many home insurance policies. If it is not already covered, you can request an endorsement to add this coverage to your policy.
