Police in Higashimatsuyama, Saitama Prefecture, Japan, have arrested a 21-year-old Myanmar national on suspicion of abandoning the body of a newborn baby inside her apartment, according to a report by Kyodo News on August 30.

The suspect, identified as a vocational school student, allegedly left the body of the infant—believed to be a baby boy—in her residence between August 16 and August 27.

August 27: The woman visited a local clinic for medical care. During the examination, the doctor noted that she was no longer pregnant and alerted the relevant local authorities.
Police Investigation: Officers inspected the suspect’s apartment and discovered the deceased newborn placed inside a plastic bag.
Suspect’s Statement: During police questioning, she stated that after giving birth, she placed the baby in a plastic bag and kept it in her apartment, denying any intention to abandon or hide the body.
Current Investigation Status
Investigators reported no visible external injuries on the infant’s body. Police are conducting further autopsies and inquiries to determine the exact cause of death and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
