According to The Balance’s research, point values have decreased because the average cost of a hotel rewards stay is now higher than it was a year ago for most loyalty programs.
The Balance found that, on average, one night’s lodging at a hotel cost 49,481 points in Q3 2022. Since then.
That average cost has increased by 11.87%, from 44,232 a year earlier.
Our research revealed that the top seven hotel brands’ loyalty programs award points with an average value of 0.88 cents each.
With all but two of the major hotel rewards programs tracked by The Balance either remaining the same or showing a slight decrease in per-point value over the past year.
The average value of hotel points has traditionally been lower than the average value of airline miles.
However, point values at Wyndham and Radisson have increased significantly since 2021, by 22.73% and 15.38%, respectively.
